What happens when criminals know that police officers will no longer chase them in a car or on foot?

The answer is they will always run and 90% of the time, get away with it.

Yes, people can get hurt in pursuits of any kind, and if it happened to a member of my family Id probably be screaming bloody murder, but I don't want to live amongst lawlessness and this is what the police department is setting up our community for.

Dude...obviously from your comment you are not a police officer and are speaking in angst about a single incident. Officers chase people everyday and catch them. Everyday it doesn't make the news because it is business as usual.

We carry guns with us everyday but most officers go their whole carreer with out shooting them other than at the range. The point of the story that was being made was this would be a crippling policy for the thousands of succesful foot chases that go on every year that have resulted in a lot of bad guys being put in jail.

I sincerely hope something bad happens to you, and the bad guy is fleeing while the police are pulling up, and they don't chase him... Poetic justice because YOU think the police shouldn't chase people.

BTW, they don't need to make up a charge for the arrest sheet... "Fleeing and evading" and "Resisting Arrest" are good enough. Enough fighting and "Assault LEO" can be thrown in there too.
