Austin makes a point we HAVE to start emphasizing at every opportunity - that most LMPD officers do own and maintain separate POVs - in some cases more than one, this attitude that we don't have to make a car payment because of the takehomes is bogus, but it is a widespread attitude that we HAVE to defeat in the eye of the public. They really believe that we shouldn't mind paying the money because it keeps us from having to make a car payment.

We really, really need a PR firm - sometimes, we are our own worst enemies. Guys, this is the time to make sure that every off-duty stop we make, they KNOW we are off-duty and not getting paid. Don't make any traffic stops, everything off duty should be either to HELP someone, or to back up a fellow officer, and when you do it, post it here and KEEP TRACK.

I'm not an expert in such things, but a family member told me that he was actually able to collect a bunch of back pay from his employer, because he could prove he was actually working (and they knew it) in excess of 40 hours and they weren't paying him for it. He tells me that if your employer knows you are working (ie, you are on the radio) they have to either tell you to knock it off, or they have to pay you, you can't volunteer to work for your employer. And if your Major refuses to sign off on your OT when you put it down, they are in clear violation of Kentucky law - KEEP TRACK.
