Tell your teen-age son that he made the right decision by forgetting about being a Police Officer. If this little bit of trash talking has him upset, he couldn't hack it on the street as a cop. The abuse an officer has to endure, both verbal and physical, from dirtbags on the street is horrendous and it takes a special type of individual to work under the conditions. Tell him that he needs to find a career where no one talks bad to him; it wont be in the military either because he'll have to put up with a lot of crap there too!!

Mom,,,,, First off good luck to you and your son. Hopefully he will make the correct call for HIM. As for feeling that someone would hope he gets shot is wrong. There is not an officer, no matter how they feel on this site, that would not come to the aid of another officer or defend them on the street. Another poster called it correctly, we are a family when it counts and we take care of each other during those times. WE can get at eachother but no one else can. If your son does chose Law Enforcement he needs to get tough skin as this is the way it is. Going to the rumor.....it is past a rumor.....it is in the courts now. Everyone has an opinion (except me as I am waiting to see what come out in trial) and they think they are correct. If it was just a rumor as you put it, it would not be on this site.

Dear Mom. Not all LMPD officers behave this way. Tell your son to continue admiring those who have worked hard to make a difference. JH is someone to admire and look up to as well as many others. I liked your comment and there is a lot of truth to it, one bad rumor gets around quicker than one good compliment. Well said and yes its pretty sad.

Mom, tell your son to continue with his dream. He should still continue to admire the Major as we all do. I am a 20 plus year veteran of LMPD and work on daywork in your division. I know as we all know that the Major got attacked by two people, one of whom he was asking to do more to serve your community, the other for some reason out of anger, jealousy and ignorance. Unfortunately, you and we lost a good man based on a lie that was alleged. He was getting all of us excited about working again, even the older ones like me. Understand, most of these postings are from the few who unfortunately work in your division who think they should not have to work and it amazes all of us as they are the younger ones. If I were you I would voice my displeasure with our council persons as they also know what the Major was finally doing what needed to be done. Shame on the two individuals who both know they have taken a lie to the next step for their own greed and benefit, and have damaged a division that was on the right track.

Dear Mom,

The Men and Women in Blue are very tight knit fraternity and what you are reading is like two brothers fighting (i.e I'm the only one that can talk to my brother like that and if you try it you will have to fight us both.) There are more than a couple of Officers on this Department that I may not see eye to eye with, but if they are ever in trouble I will not hesitate to walk into that fire to help them. I have the utmost RESPECT for Jimmy Harper, which was EARNED way before he ever went to your District and cleaned it up. The "trash talk" you are hearing is coming from a select few and not the majority, which has been verified by several Police Officers posts that work in your District. I hope that when you used the words "had respect for..." does'nt mean past tense, because Jimmy has EARNED that repect and not just a few posts from a select few that were afraid of change can EVER change that. Tell your son that he must make the best choice for him and hopefully he can earn the title of not just Police Officer but more importantly, Cop.....

Dear Major Harper, I am the son of the Mom. She said I have two choices in life. I can be a Wolf or a Rabbit. Wolves survive and rabbits get eaten. I choose to be a wolf just like you. It would be an honor to serve on your platoon.
