thanks for setting me straight. i was thinking the court was in charge and metro didnt have any say in that and it was separate for some reason. and with all the responsibilites they do have why would they want the hassle of full law enforcement,i.e making the runs, accident reports etc.

You are correct, the office of sheriff is an elected constitutional office and therefore a completely separate entity from Louisville Metro Government. The sheriff's office has it's own budget. Also, in regard to the JCSO taking over LMPD - it's not possible, because the KRS states that a city of the second class or larger is required to maintain its own municipal law enforcement agency. Sometimes it would be nice if JCSO could take us over, but it can't happen unless the state General Assembly amends the Kentucky constitution.
