The Truth

The problem is, no one at LMPD who knows the truth is willing to get out and speak the truth, since the truth, how inefficiently the department is run, is going to gore a lot of personal oxes. How many officers are "wasted" in positions that shouldn't be occupied by sworn officers? How much money is spent duplicating a function that the state already pays for - that local taxpayers are forced to pay double for? How much coordination is done to ensure that LMPD officers are not being dispatched on runs with the corporate limits of other cities within the county that have police departments? (Problem there is, they also pay for both their local PD and LMPD.) How actively is LMPD recruiting not just basic officers, but experienced officers, how "friendly" is the department to attracting Kentucky or out of state laterals that could increase the numbers much more quickly that focusing solely on newbies?

Moved out 3 years ago, saw it coming. I have lower property taxes and a few other benefits that helps balance out the low percentage pay increase and higher medical co-pays.

There aren't enough officers to go around, so most of those do-nothing jobs have been eliminated to put people back on patrol. The problem is that many of the necessary specialized positions have been eliminated with them. I don't want to generalize, but many of the people who aren't on the street right now are too close to retirement or else they're the kind best kept in an office anyhow.
