I think we have a fine Sheriff's Officer led by a very good man. Stuff like this happens on a daily basis throughout the country, but to say one person is to blame is wrong. If the Judge would bring them in with the irons on their feet and wrists then this kind of theing wouldn't happen. The only exception to not having a in custody person would be for a jury trial and then and only then there should be extra security on hand.

I can sympathize with the Deputies having to put up with being paid so much less than the retired old codgers from LMPD who breeze in the door one day. I disagree that they're knowledgeable of all areas of law enforcement, because their normal duties are limited to working in a court house. Most of LMPD or any other department aren't knowledgeable of ALL areas of law enforcement. I wouldn't bother to comment except that big egos and overconfidence are what gets Officers into very bad situations.
