Perhaps recruiting and the Chief should inform every applicant that they will be in perpetually understaffed divisions and a family unfriendly environment. He can should also admit that this problem will be aggravated by frivolous sporting events that should be hiring their own private security, but choose not to, all year long. If all the wannabe athletes want to run races down the middle of a major street instead of in a park or sporting venue where they belong, then they can pay more for their entry fee to pay for security guards. They can also tell these foreign countries and the US government to carry their own weight for security and bring in their own people, instead of putting the burden on broke and understaffed police departments.
