Officer "interacts" with shady person. Person takes off running. Person gets hit by car. Person dies. Instead of people asking "Why did he run from the police...". People will be asking "Why was the officer talking to him in the first place...he was at the park being profiled and harassed". No thanks...

Maybe your definition of "interaction" is different from me. I would just like to see a legitimate police presence. The majority of us Citizens support the police, and understand you have it rough sometimes. I'm sorry you're so jaded, but attitudes like yours only hurts perceptions. Why don't you try a fresh start? Request a transfer to a different precinct, or something. My observation is spot on, just walk across the bridge, and you will observe a complete difference in presence and attitude.

Generalizing generally leads to the wrong answers. There are liberal hug-a-thugs who rally behind thugs and only cry for police right before the thugs rob or rape them. There are some who could easily and adeptly send the thugs to hell with their weapon when the thugs try to harm them, and who have more training with firearms than most police do. I know several combat vets who were in the infantry and special ops who are working regular jobs right now. There are people in between who don't want the thugs to kill them but don't want the police to abuse them either. If you can't do your job without being a bully or imitating street thugs yourself, then choose another profession. When a house mouse says customer service, translate that to rapport. Without a rapport with the regular people on your beat, you will never know what's going on.
