The money for our authorized strength is budgeted every year. However, they stay 100-150 officers short and spend the leftover money on other vote buying projects. How about hiring the amount of officers the taxpayers are already paying for. This is just another oppurtunity for the City Government to have an additional stream of revenue. The games they play should be a criminal offense.

It's simple. This plan is smoke and mirrors. The ninety officers will bring the department up to it's currently allowed strength. This is already in the budget. To tax the public is a deception. This is NOT adding officers to the department. It is falsely moving money around to pay for other things. LPD began doing two classes a year in 1991 through 1997 or 1998. This means that if every officer eligible for retirement goes at twenty years that the city will have to do at least double classes every year for the next several years. They cannot keep up with the staffing levels. The current morale/situation that LMPD faces means that most officers eligible will retire as soon as they are able and seek employment elsewhere. They know this and are not informing the public. The monies raised by this tax are being raised under false pretenses. I am ashamed to say that Mayor Greg Fisher is perpetuating a fraud on the citizens of Metro Louisville. Mr Mayor, you are correct in the statement that the tax is not fair. It is a sham, a way of adding to the coffers of government by deception. If you really want to add to your police force, bring them up to the allowed levels and then add officers. I can retire in the next year. I have no incentive to stay.

Las Vegas

In light of what happened in Las Vegas, BE SAFE! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO! I'll tell you this, if I ever see anyone trying to harm a policeman, I'm in. I'll do whatever I can to help. If you all are willing to give your lives for us, I'm willing to do the same.

Very grateful Louisville resident!

I have a question for LMPD. I have walked and biked across the big 4 pedestrian bridge on multiple occasions. Everytime I see LMPD officers sitting in their cars. The last time I see an unmarked truck with tinted windows, I guess it was the police. When I get to ther Jeffersonville side there is officers on foot on the ramp, talking and engaging people. I see officers patrolling and visible in golf carts. How come LMPD doesn't do this? The bridge was really busy and there was definitely some shady characters on the bridge, and marijuana lingered in the air on the Louisville side.

This guy sure does have a lot of vowels in his name. I'm sure it's just a matter of happenstance.
