First, the term tax was used by the mayor. Second, there may be seventy retirements this year, there are already ninety vacant positions in the department. The administration is keeping vacancies because this allows them to spend already allocated monies on other things. Many government agencies do this and have been caught; i.e New Orleans Police during hurricane Katrina. Third, your post does not address the fact that this is a shame, smoke and mirrors, a way to increase revenue for metro government while not addressing the fact that they already have the slots and money.

Public Service Commission has already stated that utilities can pass on the charge to customers. It is a tax and the truth of the matter is as stated a smoke and mirror move to create revenue for city govermnent. This mayor is surrounded by very wealthy people who he listens to and they have no idea what impact all these fees and taxes have on the average worker living in the city of Louisville. By the way what has improved for the former county residents since merger? Absolutely nothing! Taxes continue to go up and there are no new services being provided to former county residents. The former city people pay even more in taxes. Merger did nothing but create a city power base. Streets are in terrible shape, police are not fully up to AUTHORIZED manning and the list goes on. Before someone says if you don't like it move I'm just saying at some point things have got to change before it breaks the backs of citizens.
