If the guy's story is a lie, then the department has done a horrible job of communicating with the media about the story. When you don't give the media interviews for a story they automatically assume you've got something to hide, just like police do. The officers should say something through the FOP lawyer about what happened. If they really slammed the guy to the ground while trying to make a bogus panhandling charge just because he was forgetful and looked dirty, then the city is going to lose big in court. Don't put your hands on people for some bullsh** because its too easy to get sued. This isn't your father's police department.
