A better headline:

GROWN MAN WITH SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT GETS FEELINGS HURT BY LMPD OFFICER WHO SHOULD HAVE KNOW MAN'S CONDITION: Man has no injuries and was never arrested by mean officer

Someone showed up that has the sense to evaluate what was going on and end the situation with the best outcome that was possible given what had already transpired. The unarrest was smart.

The whole thing sucks. Our folks did a good job (whole story is tainted by liberal crap). Anyone that thinks we (LMPD) don't care about vets, is NUTS! Many of us are prior military, and MANY of us are vets of foreign wars. I am: Afghanistan. Iraq. Somalia. Chechnya.

We (LMPD) care about the military. Many of us (LMPD) ARE the military.

Why doesn't the Dept. tell the whole story?

Ever since I have been on I have never seen them clear the officer's name by telling EXACTLY what happened.

The Dept. Command staff seems to just let the officer's reputations get tarnished and dragged thru the mud. When all they would have to do would be tell all the facts.

This article is so one sided-he was "concerned" he was going "to be shot" so he walked up on an officer that was already in his face. He smelled of alcohol because he was wine tasting, did not know his address because he is mental. I think every officer has placed someone in handcuffs for that persons safety and officer safety till they investigate further. He must not be to mental if he remembers all these details that favor him so much all this time later.

I respect all Military members, but it might be time to start writing them tics to offset the money the city is going to toss out to TC on this waste of time. I know the state gets the fines but city gets some of the court cost.

Geeeeezzzzzz, this is just great. Now the Dept is going to partner with the Army to come give us training on how to handle military members who have PTSD. I assume this will be included in mandated 2013---this is just great! Obviously this guy wants to sue, he has already contacted Thomas Clay, lol. He knew exactly who to contact. Lay down, let these people pack this city off then the Command will support you in doing your job.

The LTC should have been arrested for Disorderly Conduct and Menacing. He wasn't because a courtesy was given because of his service. Why would a report be done on someone that should have been arrested and given a break? I'm sure in his mind he thinks he did nothing wrong, partially because he wasn't taken to jail. The LTC thinks he is helping veterans by this, but it will only hurt veterans, now police will never cut a veteran a break, and they will go to jail everytime. Also, several of the officers involved are combat veterans.

I know the Officers involved. All were put in a difficult situation and used the force needed to handle the situation. The Officers made the right decision morally and ethically by letting him go. Its not their fault the C.O. didn't do any CYA paperwork. But as I understand it the C.O. wasn't required to do anything given the situation. Even if this man had been arrested, this story would still have hit the air. Claiming the police used excessive force and locked up misunderstood war hero with a brain injury. Then the monday morning quarter backs on the Department would be saying "They should have taken him to UofL", or "Those jerks should have let him go" The only thing the Officers could have been done differently would have been to lay down and not investigate strange or suspicious behavior. Next time you see something suspicious - DON'T DO ANYTHING . You might wrongfully be profiling someone. Next thing you know you'll be in federal court with a 4th amendment violation case over your head.

I hope that this great man gets some money from the city for what LMPD did to him.

the jefferson county Sheriff was in the guard and had the same rank lieutenant colonel.

If this happended to a LMPD Officer at Fort Knox that was visiting a family member, what would the implications be? Would Fort Knox MP's do a report or bury the incident like LMPD did? I hope there would not be a double standard? What do you think?

I served two tours with LTC Settle in Helmend and Kandahar, he always had his enlisted mens back and our Afghan Kandacks were solid. No free chicken on our watch.

I wish him the best recovery and keep the high ground.
