A Louisville Metro Police officer is being treated at University Hospital after he was beaten while responding to a call.

Police say it was a call of a "man down" on S. 10th St. in the Beecher Terrace neighborhood.

When the officer tried to wake the man, he started attacking the officer.

Investigators say the man was able to get ahold of the officers flashlight and began beating him with it

The man was eventually tased by police.

"It just shows you that no run is an ordinary run," said Lt. Michael O'Neill, of the LMPD. "You can be trying to wake someone up, seeing if they're okay, and the next time you're getting hit in the face. It shows the danger of police work and no run is an ordinary run."

The officer suffered injuries to his face and both the officer and the alleged attacker were transported to University Hospital.

Police say the man will face a minimum of a felony charge for assaulting the officer.
