A special prosecutor in Shelby County says he wants Kentucky State Police to investigate mayoral candidate and Metro Councilman Jim King as well as his daughter, District Court Judge Katie King.

Attorney General Jack Conway appointed Hart Megibben, the Shelby County Attorney, as a special prosecutor to look into possible criminal wrongdoing by the King's, related to campaign finance laws.

The Kentucky Registry of Election Finance called the donations Jim King made to his daughter's campaign a "non-knowing violation." But former mayoral candidate Ed Springston who has led the fight for criminal prosecution, says there was criminal intent all along.

"Jim King will be indicted. You can put that on record for all of your viewers out there, Jim King will be indicted. I will make sure of that," said Springston.

Megibben has read nearly 800 pages of evidence from the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance and has come to the conclusion that Kentucky State Police should be involved.

"I just feel like it is necessary at this point, to, out of due diligence to refer it to law enforcement for a formal law enforcement investigation," said Megibben.

"They're just confident they haven't done anything wrong and they're going to be exonerated when this is over with," said Scott Cox, the King's attorney.
