A Metro Police Officer was involved in a shooting shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Monday.
It happened in the area of 9th and Market Streets, which is right on the western edge of the downtown business district.
Officials say that a marked police car and two other vehicles were stopped at a red light. A woman from one of the vehicles ran out of her car and started pounding on the hood of the police car, yelling that a man in the other vehicle had a gun.
During that time, the man from the other vehicle had gotten out and was approaching the police car with his gun pointed at the officer.
Officials say that is when the officer shot the man multiple times. They are not sure yet if the man had fired any shots or not.
The man was taken to University Hospital, where his condition is unknown.
