PHOTO

A Forest Hills police officer was killed this afternoon while blocking traffic for construction crews on the Gene Snyder Freeway at La Grange Road.

The accident happened as the officer was working off-duty traffic control on Gene Snyder. The officer was inside his marked camaro with emergency equipment activated.

About 2 p.m. a box truck traveling northbound crashed into the police car, pushing it into the construction vehicle ahead of it. The box truck then went on to hit all three construction vehicles.

Two construction workers were taken to University Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the box truck and another construction worker were taken to an area hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.
