Two officers were hospitalized after being involved in an accident at Preston and Chestnut not far from University Hospital just after 5:30 a.m. Not long before they were taken to the hospital for treatment, police say a man tried to bring an AK-47 automatic rifle into University Hospital, but then left.

The HSC Chestnut Street Parking Garage is currently inaccessible due to the ongoing investigation. Chestnut Street eastbound is currently closed and may not be accessed via Floyd or Preston Streets.

Health Sciences Center employees are advised to park at the Haymarket lot. An ongoing shuttle service is available.

Police were looking for the suspect in the area when their patrol cars collided.

The suspect, described only as a black male, had allegedly been involved in an altercation with a University Hospital security guard, then returned later with at least two other friends.

At least three suspects were later arrested without incident.

Police were still looking for two other black males that were with the suspect, and are investigating the possibility that this incident may be related to a fight an off-duty officer was involved in earlier in the day.

Several roads in the area have been blocked off while police conduct an investigation.
