A Letter From David James About Stepping Down As President

Brothers and Sisters,

I recently had to make a very hard decision. I was faced with a career opportunity

that I decided to take after much consultation with many close friends. I'll

be leaving the Louisville Metro Police Department and going to work in Frankfort

at the Attorney Generals office. I will begin at the AG office on Jan.

16 th and resign as the President of the FOP at the next General meeting on

Tuesday January. 20 th 2004. My last day with LMPD will be Jan. 14 th , 2004

. I will miss the  FOP, LMPD and all of you more than I can ever express

in words. Thank you for your support and help over the years. I think we have

shown that when we work together, we can do very well for ourselves. I will

not be far away, so if you need anything please call.

In order to follow the Constitution and By-laws of the FOP, and to insure

an orderly and efficient change in administration a new President will be selected.

How It Will Work:

The President resigns; the Vice President automatically assumes the position.

Currently Worthy Brother Gary Fischer is serving as Vice President, but he

has recently retired from LMPD and will begin at the Sheriffs Department on

Jan. 5 th , 2004 . He does not feel it would be good for the Lodge to work

at the Sheriff's Department and be the President of FOP 614. So, he will conduct

a vote among the Board and Delegates for a new Vice President. Then President

Fischer will step down as president and the New President will conduct elections

among the Board and Delegates as to who the new Vice President will be. This

vote will take place at 4:30 PM January 20 th , 2004 .

This notice will serve as an announcement: anyone interested in the position

of President or Vice President, please indicate by letting me know through

letter (Departmental mail to FOP 614) or e-mail ( president@rcfop.com ).

There will be a special FOP 614 Board and Delegates meeting held on January

3 rd , 2004 at 10:00 am at the lodge. At that meeting the Board and Delegates

will have the opportunity to meet and discuss with the candidates their positions

and ideas for the future of FOP lodge 614.

The Board and Delegates will then have until January 20 th to think about

what they heard at that meeting. On Jan. 20 th at 4:30 pm , there will be another

special meeting of FOP 614 Board and Delegates to vote (as per by-laws) on

who the next Vice President and President will be.

In order to insure that your voice is heard please contact your Board members

and Delegates. Please have them carry your vote forward to the table on January

20 th 2004 . The Board members and Delegates are in place to carry your voice

in such matters, make sure they do so. Give them questions to ask the perspective

candidates, have them report back to you how those questions were answered

and what the candidates had to say. When you decide on whom you want to be

the next FOP President and Vice President, tell your Board members and Delegates,

and have them write it down. Please participate in the process, it's vital

to the health of the Lodge as we go into the hardest contract negotiations

in local FOP history.
