Facing potential legal action from local police, a Paducah district court judgeship candidate has apologized for controversial remarks he made in court.

In reference to a police error, the Courier-Journal of Louisville quotes Kautz as joking to a District Judge that either police "reweighed the marijuana or added a little marijuana to it."

When the judge suggested the statement would be unpopular with police, Kautz reportedly added, "Oh you know, they're going to love my rap song too and my new jingle ... 'Kill a cop, shoot a cop, vote for Will Kautz' ".

He immediately amended both remarks by saying he was "facetious" and "kidding".

The controversial matter reportedly was widely covered by local radio, and upset the local Fraternal Order of Police lodge. Kautz has since apologized to The Courier-Journal saying, "It was a stupid thing to say. I very much regret having said it."
