Terrorism Training Begins In Louisville

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, police from around the state are coming together with volunteers here in Metro Louisville.

Various police agencies and dedicated volunteers gathered at a police-training facility on Taylor Boulevard Tuesday, taking the first steps toward preparedness in the event of a terrorist act, a chemical spill or even a natural disaster like a hurricane or tornado, WLKY NewsChannel 32's Bill Alexander reported.

"I think we've seen in the last month, where infrastructures have become stressed and the capacity to respond has become limited," training organizer Ed Brodt said. "So if you have things in place in a community, before disaster hits, you can respond adequately."

Many of the volunteers involved in Tuesday's gathering have been working with police agencies for years, Alexander reported. But there's a new push to get some younger people involved.
