Jacob Harvey, 23, was found shot to death in west louisville on July 12th making him the city's 37th homicide for 2005 and the 16th homicide victim for that area. The shooting happened just before 10 p.m. in the 300 block of North 40th Street. There are no suspects, no leads, and no one is helping.
This is probably little surprise to most police officers. It has sadly become routine to expect little or no help from witnesses or victims of violent crimes that occur in the cities impoverished areas. One could speculate numerous reasons why this happens, including distrust of the police or fear of retribution. In the end the only thing for sure is that we are now on track to pass last years record homicide rate and things aren't getting any better.
