City Threatens Layoffs During Contract Talks

More than 100 San Jose police officers could be out of a job as the city struggles to reduce its budget deficit.

One-hundred-and-66 officers are among the more than 300 city employees that have received notice their jobs may be in jeopardy.

The notices come as San Jose tries to narrow a 58 (m) million dollar shortfall.

City officials say similar notices have been sent out in previous years, but nobody has actually been laid off.

The head of the San Jose Police Officers' Association says the city is using the warnings while the city and police officers negotiate a contract.

The contract between the city and its police and firefighters expired last year.
