It was brought to our attention that the Community Relations Unit is often a target of blame for many people that do not understand the focus and goals of the unit.
Community Relations does not have the vast number of Officers that is often reported. LMPD provides 20 Officers to this unit in the following functions:
9 School Resource Officers
6 DARE Officers
2 PAL Officers
1 Citizen Police Academy Officer
1 Officer to handle all the other issues that are assigned.
9 other School Resource Officers come from the Jefferson County Sherrif's Office.
We want everyone to know that the Officers assigned to this unit are highly dedicated individuals that have focused on this avenue of Police work in their efforts to best serve the community.
We are proud of all of our Officers and how they continue to perform under diffucult circumstances and criticism. We are confident that wherever our Officers are assigned they will continue to serve the citizen's of Metro Louisville as they will always be there when someone needs our help.
