Officer Died When Cruiser Collided With Squad Car During ChaseDALLAS -- River Oaks police hope a $10,000 reward will lead them to the driver who caused an accident that killed an officer.

Officer Nathan Laurie died last week when his cruiser collided with another squad car during the chase.

They were chasing the driver of a pickup who backed into officer Laurie's cruiser then sped off during a traffic stop.

Police found the truck but not the driver.

FORT WORTH, Texas -- River Oaks police are investigating an accident that killed one of its officers and injured another early Thursday morning. Investigators told NBC 5 that Officer Nathan Laurie was attempting to pull over the driver of a pickup truck when the driver of the truck started ramming Laurie's cruiser.

The officer called for backup and followed the truck. A short chase ensued that ended with Laurie crashing his car.

Investigators are still looking into how the accident occurred, but they do say that somehow Laurie and Officer Juan Rios, who responded to the call for backup, both hit a gas meter and some trees.

Authorities said residents rushed to help the officers, but rescuers evacuated them because of the open gas line.

Laurie was taken to an area hospital where he later died. Rios was treated and released Thursday.

Police believe they found the Chevrolet pickup connected with the accidents in the parking lot of an apartment complex. The truck, they said, was stolen.

Police are reviewing tape from the dashboard-mounted video cameras in the police cars.
