Jeffersonville man wanted officer to jump-start stolen vehicle

Louisville Metro Police have arrested a man who flagged down a police officer because he needed someone to jump-start a vehicle that turned out to be stolen.

It happened Wednesday just after 11:30 p.m., according to an arrest report. That's when police say they were flagged down by 24-year-old Wyatt E. Thompson in a dimly lit parking lot near the corner of 3rd St. and York St. because he needed a jump for his vehicle.

While assisting Thompson, officers say they discovered the vehicle had been stolen.

Police say the vehicle had been reported stolen on March 18, after someone took it for a test drive from Niki Auto Sales and never returned it. The original police report listed the vehicle's value at $11,000, and Thompson as a suspect in the theft, police say.

Officers say Thompson had the car key, but told the officer he didn't steal the vehicle.

Inside the car, police say they found Thompson's ID and social security card, as well as many items of clothing.

Thompson was arrested and charged with theft.
