It's an effort to put a stop to gang violence, gambling and drinking in Victory Park.

This summer, Louisville Metro Police are adding extra patrols, riding ATVs and walking the area.

Residents say in the afternoons and evenings, they frequently see crimes in the park. Metro Councilman David James tapped $11,000 in Neighborhood Development Funds to pay for additional overtime so officers can patrol the area.

"Our ultimate goal was to make the park safer for residents so children can come back to the park, families could come back to the park like they used to in the old days," said Lt. Dale Massey of the Louisville Metro Police Dept. "It's a gathering place so people can come out here and feel safe, not have the nuisance of public drinking, gambling, public disorder-type of crime."

But the overtime money will soon run out.
