I am the original poster. I was not saying I was not speeding I was asking why the officer was going So much faster than I was going. I see it so often and I wanted to know why. Plain and simple. I also understand now about the cars that need to go faster like the mustangs etc. You answered my questins. I had no intentions of getting you so upset. I am a parent and if my child asks me question I anaswer in a wauy that doesnt say im upset because he asked the questions. I knew from reading this site before that I would be ripped for asking but I was giving someone the benefit of the doubt. i have respect fo rall officers regardless of what they drive or how fast they go. I expect that in return but I know that you must respect yourself first as well as your co wprkers and I have seen that has not happened on this site. Thank you for nswering my questions. I will not be reasding any further comments on this site so if you feel the need to rip me a[art again i will not be reading it so go right ahead.

Read this again!!!!

" First, lights & sirens are not exclusive indications someone is going somewhere "worthy" of speeding. Many runs do not allow or call for using those but speeding to get there is still necessary. "

Does this make sense????

I also like to think police may drive a little faster than others because we have more driver training than other, we drive our police vehicles 40 plus hours a week ( not just to and from work, store, etc...) so therefore we know the capabilities of our vehicles better-also our vehicles are better equipped ( police interceptor), we take our vehicles to the shop every 3,000-4,000 miles ( tires, lights, etc..) others speeding vehicles on the roads may have worn tires, broken windshield, etc...

Is it right that we speed no, going 25 plus on way to court no-but you wanted reasons why-we do not get paid to drive a car all day-I wish that is all I had to do an 8-10 hr day-we are looking for things ( addresses, people, computer, Sgt calling my phone, cars, etc..) overall we do not cause that many collision for the amount we drive and what all we have to do while we are driving-plus other post had it right-if we were going 54 in a 55 people would get mad because we would hold traffic up!

KRS 189.940 says emergency vehicles can speed, run red lights, and drive on the wrong side of the road if and ONLY IF they are displaying flashing emergency lights AND operating their siren, bell, or whistle. The ONLY exception given is if an ambulance is transporting a victim and the siren would be detrimental to their health. They are still required to have flashing lights activated.
