Overkill, I agree. But that was and is the atmosphere that Bob White created and that Major Hettich is continuing. She thinks she is the cats meow for punishing cops, especially for secondary or courtesy violations.

If you want to criticize the number of charges, you might look toward the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office.

PIU is charged with investigating complaints and presenting the evidence to the prosecutor's office. Unlike the route most officers take in most cases by simply placing open charges on someone, PIU first submits the evidence to the prosecutor, who, in turn, makes the decision on whether or not to go forward - prior to any charge being brought. The obvious exceptions are on cases like domestic violence charges where the subject is present, and DUIs.

If you blame PIU, is it your position that they not do a complete investigation, and not turn over everything to the prosecutor because he's a police officer?

Unlike PSU, there are checks and balances outside the police department that vet the evidence and decide the charges.

Also- how many of you guys out there are batting 1.000 on your high-profile jury trials?

How many of you have even had a high-profile jury trial?

Or even a trial at all that went all the way to a jury verdict?

Sometimes they get it right, and sometimes they get sidetracked. And somtimes the wrong guy is on the stand, although that would be a little difficult to argue in a case like this.

I wonder how the FBI feels about the incidents that led up to Arterburn's charges?
