this is not meant to belittle stengal's service but question your knowledge. your statement of under a lot of enemy fire is based upon what argument. infantry\engineers\artillery\air crews are under a lot of enemy fire. was stengal a combat arms vet or was he in the jag corp? which branch was he serving in? i don't know so i am asking the person who just claimed he earned it "under a lot of enemy fire." i know the difference because in the first gulf war i was given the ribbons that went with it but never stepped foot in country. later i went in support of the no fly zones and got a few more but never saw a shot fired. so just how do you know he was under a lot of enemy fire? as far as his service goes, if he was stationed in south east asia he is deserving of the award and people need to be quiet about him wearing it. if he was just in the military while vietnam was happening then that doesn't support his wearing of the ribbon. it was after all the south east asia service ribbon meaning you had to be there. as proof there is a current case before the us supreme court for this same thing, people claiming military awards they didn't earn. there is a difference between being in the military while war is occurring, being stationed in a combat designated area and actually engaging in combat. there is also a difference between unabashedly stating something as fact and being able to back it up.
