Rare occasion? You might wanna look up the definition of rare... We've had several examples over the last 3-4 years of those either still in or fresh out of academy and still in probation doing something that completely humiliates the department and its hiring practices.

"rare occasion" and "this incident". Like there was only one??? What about all the others in recent years, such as QUEEN, Fanning, Mitchell (five different PTOs / probation extended twice), the rapist who was fired during the academy about a year ago. YES, you are correct - the recruitment and selection unit does not have the final say. But, wouldn't it be smart and a good idea to actually listen to and take the advice from the people who are doing all the legwork actually performing the background checks, and talking to these applicants in person, etc. Why even have these systems in place, if you're not going to use them correctly?
