"passed through the process anyway just because the chiefs office got involved". Seems to happen a lot these days. "DO NOT HIRES" being hired anyway, against the advice of the recruitment/selection unit as well as refusing to listen to the professional opinions given by the psychologists which are used during the selection process. Also, during the academy and field training phases - START LISTENING TO THE ADVICE OF THE TRAINING STAFF AND PTOs. If they strongly recommend that a recruit should be weeded out and fired, listen to them. Why wait until these problem officers become multi-million dollar liabilities for the city and a huge embarassment to our department.

The simple answer, is to hire the best qualified applicant, not hire them based on sex or skin color. If you want more minority candidates, go get them. Don't just hire them so you can have the numbers. There have to be better people out there. And, if recruitment does not recommend their hire, don't hire them. That seems to be a theme around this place, do things because of numbers. So, far, it has not worked, either in hiring or compstat. More tickets don't mean fewer fatalities. More arrests don't just simply drop crime. Quality versus quantity. Something this place has not had an appreciation for.
