New police chief Steve Conrad sets lofty goal for Louisville and its officers

"It's all in how well you take the test."

That was told to me by a Lt. and a Sgt. a little over a year ago.

Patrol is the backbone of the department and make most of the arrest for the specialized units, but I believe they both needed. I'm surprised officers are talking about cutting sergeant/lieutenant spots. The chance to advance at some point in your career should be something everyone strives to reach. It makes for a better lifestyle for your family and offers you a chance to change (at least a small part) the problems you see in the current leadership. Yes, every aspect of Metro could be streamlined to same some money (hiring private contractors to clean and still have the same number of custodians working for Metro would be a place to start), but if you have it your way it will be all officers and 1 Chief. As you get older you may see you can influence more than one beat and making a good wage without the off-duty would be nice.
