FOP not to endorse a chief candidate

February 13th, 2012 @ 12:37AM (12 years ago)

"The FOP and myself are making it abundantly clear to the powers that be what we would like in a chief, but we're not going to make a public endorsement," Mutchler said.

This sounds like it is code for "we're telling those involved who we want for Chief but we aint telling the media".

Sounds like a good plan.

Rather interesting story in the morning paper about the five candidates. Is Colonel Gentry trying to be chief of police or head of social services. Makes a strong points for social work, but not much for crime fighting. Not much for leadership either. Of course Major Fox covered all bets and is trying to keep his oak leaf, no matter who is made chief. Buddy Dumeyer could not make it to the final five so has to get his name in the paper some way. Mr. Mayor if you want a suckup as chief you have two great candidates here.

Finally. One of the smartest decisions the FOP has made in a while. Keep your mouth shut. It wouldn't matter anyway, everyone already knows who the next chief is going to be.

We, the (FOP), need to take the same stance when it comes to the elections. The days of the Police having influence on the public in an election are long gone.

We need to concentrate on what we are supposed to do, not politics. If you play politics, you are more likely to be treated as such.

What is up with the economic mindset of delay, delay, delay in order to save money? Delaying only makes it cost more in the future. Didn't king jerry delay paying fireman their due compensation to the tune of costing taxpayers an extra $50 million or more? That delay didn't save anything.

Now the idea of hiring freezes to save money? The fact is it will cost more to hire the same officers by waiting till next year. The media should do a story that this department has never been fully staffed to authorized strength. This is the cause of the unwanted overtime. We are understaffed. But the truth is, overtime will be sidelined at the expense of officer safety, and we will continue to work in unsafe working conditions with 6 people on a platoon for an entire division. Boy, the County will really pay if an officer was to be killed and low staffing could be proven as a contributing factor. Just saying.... I make sure my spouse knows the number of officers I work with on a day to day basis. It wouldn't be hard to subpoena the lineups.

This county does not have a good proven track record of making wise fiscal decisions. Every cost cutting idea I can think of has never worked.

It's a shell game.

I was glad to see the FOP did not back a certain candidate like they did in the mayors race. WE need to stay out of politics. Ugh.

RIP Pete Ward

Brother Dave Mutchler,

I just wanted to take the time to tell you how powerful and pleasant you were at Brother Pete Ward's wake/funeral service. Whether it was rehearsed or off the cuff, for a few minutes I was reminded how proud I am to be a member of LMPD. You did the family and the agency a huge service!
