City gets $11 million bill for interest on Louisville firefighter...

February 9th, 2012 @ 11:06AM (12 years ago)

Well...it's going to potentially made it difficult to keep/get the fleet(s) in decent shape by borrowing from the vehicle replacement fund, but at least the Mayor is looking for ways to make the situation with the FFs right.

If only Big Head Jer hadn't screwed them over for so long, this wouldn't be an issue!

Take my car and give me the $10,000 raise for the value Mayor Jer put on them in court! I would much rather have the 10,000 dollars than drive my 12 year old dangerous POS.

p.s. THE NEWBURG GARAGE SUCKS and they should FIRE THEM ALL, PRIVATIZE IT!!!!!!!!! THERE IS NO ACCOUNTABILTY IN METRO GOVERNMENT.. EVERY ONE KNOW HOW BAD NEWBURG GARAGE SUCKS, BUT NOTHING IS DONE ABOUT IT..

AND WE ARE BEING RAPED BY NAPA!!!!!

As much as this is going to put a crimp in the budget, it is way past due. Just like police, firefighters put their lives on the line to do their job, and the City of Louisville truly raped them in exchange for their sacrifices.

Granted, this issue could have been resolved 20+ years ago at a small fraction of the cost. If the mayor's house or an alderman's house burned to the ground it probably would have been settled a lot quicker. I believe in the old saying, "an ounce of prevention is worth its weight in gold." Well, how many ounces of gold do you need to sell to make $11 million? - a LOT!

Now that Jerry is in the KY government, he now has this additional money coming in that the tax payers are paying for him to spend as he pleases. If the proper pay was paid years ago then no interest would be due and we wouldn't have to come up with this additional money. Thanks King Jerry.

I am totally with you. I understand.

My car has spent months at Newburg. However............you are wrong.

Our mechanics are getting hosed just like us. How do you want em to behave? work harder when getting dumped on?

ladies n gents: not like the old days when you could just roll in to old Newburg and get anything fixed/ Logan street and get anything under the sun done in 2 hrs. Our mechs aren't slouches. Our mechs are acting like they are being treated.

I sure wish I had a good answer from the Police side - but I don't.

I don't blame our mechs a bit. I act the same way when I get dumped on too.

Have some compassion yall. At least tell em' THANKS.

just me.

All the Lieutenants are getting new cars. The one's doing the real work deserve the new cars not the lieutenants.

PLEDGE:

I do solemly swear, I shall never complain about LMPD again. I recently was surfing the internet and googled "police layoffs" just out of boredom. The number of police departments who have had to lay off police officers because of the sluggish economy is alarming!: Pontiac, Michigan; Detroit, Michigan; Newark and Trenton, New Jersey; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Cleveland, Ohio; Illinois State Police. The list goes on and on... It has not happened here, but I qualify that with a "yet" because it certainly can. The warning signs are blatant. Mayor Fischer has just announced a delay in starting the next recruit class to balance the budget and overtime is now a cuss words. A lof of departments are abolishing the take-home car program too. LMPD doesn't look so bad after all.

Cost of LMPD command staff

February 12th, 2012 @ 7:58PM (12 years ago)

Current LMPD Staffing/command cost

Sergeants 154 x 60000 = $9,240,000.00

Lieutenants 56 x 80000 = $4,480,000.00

Captains x = $0.00

Major 14 x 97500 = $1,365,000.00

Dep Police Chief 2 x 103000 = $206,000.00

Assistant Police Chief 2 x 98000 =$196,000.00

Cost, not including the Chief at 125k = $15,487,000.00

If you restructure, demote non-merit ranks and give retirement incentives you can easily get to something like this:

Sergeants 125 x 60000 = $7,500,000.00

Lieutenants 45 x 80000 = $3,600,000.00

Major 9 x 97500 = $877,500.00

Assistant Police Chief 2 x 98000 = $196,000.00

for a total cost of = $12,173,500.00

which would be a 3 million plus a year in savings to the city
