Former KSP Commissioner Ishmon Burks named interim LMPD chief |
RE: Former KSP Commissioner Ishmon Burks named interim LMPD chief...
I am the original poster and I too think LMPD is crazy for not considering good lateral hires. I can't tell you how many good folks have gone elsewhere because they moved to Kentucky, for whatever reason, and discovered that they are effectively shut out of LMPD despite years of solid experience at other agencies. I will NEVER forget when a young U of L officer attended basic WITH LPD and when he tried to lateral over was denied (even though at that time they considered laterals) because he'd not yet served three years. He was so determined to do it he went ahead and went through a second basic. Yes, he has the distinction of having to go through basic training twice with LPD - and that's just goofy. Another officer started LMPD basic two months after graduating from basic training in Richmond - what a waste of time for everyone involved.
