I'll bite.... I would venture to say with LMPD that 75% of all over time is Federal Grant related (dui enforcement, meth lab clean up, cold case grants, underage drinking grant, semi truck inspections that take dangerous trucks off the road etc...and derby time. The other 25% is detectives busting their humps on Business Robberies, Homicides, Rapes, child sex abuse, vehicle fatalities, shootings, stabbings, etc.... When detective are working hot leads on these serious crimes they are not just going home when the clock strikes the end of the shift, nor would victims or families expect them to...

NOTHING TO SEE HERE MOVE ON....USELESS STORY...

Everyone is being so sensitive, like maybe this person is "new" and didn't know where to go or what to ask, but I second the troll vote. They obviously looked up one specific person, not just the OT column in general. Far more than one officer is in the 20k overtime range, some even over 30k and way over 83k total. But to answer your actual question, yes, it's normal and yes specific units have access to a lot of overtime money because they get grant money. The grant money has in the past been taken away and given to divisions, but division personnel didn't take full advantage of so it went back to the units that used it. If you look at the top 20 "police officers" with high OT, more than half of them are in Traffic. They range different shifts and years on the dept
