Wow this whole ordeal is better than a Jerry Springer show! So when do they try to fight while people get in between them? What an embarrassment for Louisville all around!

I don't know Crystal very well, have never really spoken to her, can't say how good of an officer she was or wasn't, never worked with her, but, my gosh, everyone should know the basics of police work. I can see where something unexpected can go wrong in an investigation, but based on what has been said and testified to in this hearing that has been made public, there is only one person to blame and that is Crystal, I'm sorry. Anyone who has been an officer and made arrests and taken cases to court should know what to do and what not to do. Blaming this on training is wrong. Yes, these days the way things are done beat guys don't get the experience handling and investigating cases like it used to be because a detective is always called. Based on that there should be more training offered to those who want to be a detective. But when ,or if , she interviewed for the spot someone should have been able to tell she was not ready for the job. Whoever made the decision to give her the detective spot should be the one answering questions here.

The main problem is that there is NO training in place for a District Detective! NONE! You sit through a Mickey Mouse interview where the CO and the other detectives have already decided who they want, and *POOF*! You're a Detective! (and no, I'm not a jealous beat cop...I'm a district **** myself- just telling the truth!)

No training period, no 'FTO' Detective program, nada. One day you're taking a 10-49 report, the next day you've got 3 Burglary cases and a stabbing to investigate. The other Det's are so swamped with cases as well, so there's no 'let me show you how it's done' going on either. Every **** is trying to stay afloat on the vast sea of cases they have, and trying to make an arrest any way they can to please the overbearing Lt's breathing down you're neck over the 'stats'.

LMPD is a joke. If only the public actually knew.....

The problem is that "detective", and I am one and have been for 10 years, is an appointed/selected position. I never took a test (like NYPD or CPD) or had to demonstrate an overall understanding of the law and the job. In my case, I was a competant patrol officer who knew the beat that was getting destroyed. I was "asked" to apply and was "chosen", then with no training began to muddle through the processes.

Now I try and take the time to help our newer, and younger, brothers (and sisters), but to be honest many don't want to hear it and insist on the 'fast' efforts to clear their cases, regardless of the outcome

I would love to see an examination process, coupled with a check of job aptitude and experience and panel interviews to be put in place for these positions. After all if you have never been to the grand jury, written affidavits, sought arrest warrants and dont know the arcane points of the law as a patrolman, then why should you come to a detective bureau?

Without commenting on this incident I will say that I have worked with John in the past and found him to be self serving towards his own means. He justifies his actions to his personal agenda. He has gone to the chiefs office in the past because he thought others were doing wrong yet taken actions and or done things for his own gain. I have never seen him commit a criminal act and will not lie on him. He is mercurial in his agenda and I do not trust him. I have personally seen him take others arrests and inject himself in situations that he had no reason to. He has policed like anyone else yet rationalized his actions while telling on others. Judge him as you will but remember that he serves himself while saying that he serves others.

This whole thing starts at the top. The command staff sets the culture of our department. When you have chief who has NEVER ridden a beat in this town and allows command to walk around without a gun belt on in uniform is no kind of example to set for the troops. He has promoted himself via his new star on his collar in order to make himself feel important. Look how he has insulated himself by surrounding his position with more people to take the blame.....sounds like Obama huh.?! He has blantanly promoted unqualified people who go from not having a degree and no experience to lt. col and a couple of years. I would love to see the U of L transcripts on that degree.

So in a nutshell he puts people in positions that they are qualified for and doesnt care about the results. Therefore it has become part of our culture. Hide the incompetent, don't enforce rules or hold people accountable. Drag on investigations for months or years for no reason.

This place is all smoke and mirrors!!!!

Well, John Keeling. I sure hope you don't think you are a hero for standing up for Marlowe. Yeah, I am hiding behind anonymity, but I am okay with that, because what would you do anyway. I am grossly disappointed in you for supporting her getting her job back. You did it for politics. Punch the Chief in the eye right. I watch how you and Bill think you are both so cute and interrupt the FOP meetings. Both of you are jerks. Never thought I would say that. I had a lot of respect for you both. I think you are still a good cop. After that though, no way.
