$ - "Yeah- I hear the exact same thing from others on the dpt; and all of them who spout this kind of propoganda are always "one of the boys". As long as you say 'yes sir', and NEVER offer a dissenting opinion, you'll be golden- one of the boys."

You are wrong, I was never in the "in crowd", which is why I will still retire proudly from patrol

$ -"The first time you point out that the 'Emporer has no clothes!' you're going to have a totally different experience- and career. When your told to do something stupid, reckless, or just plain wrong You're a whiner. Bring up a problem with an idea that a CO came up with? You're not a team player."

You seem to have several options, report it when they tell you do some thing illegal or just forget to do it (which is what I normally did, and when they got ticked I would always smile and say, hey boss you had to be kidding about breaking the law, right? Good try, but can't fool me)

$ - "This department does not want you to think for yourself. They want you to follow their policy, letter for letter, no matter the consequence. -policies written by CO's that got their spot by first becoming a SGT from a written test and 'role playing' scenarios. NO consideration was given on what kind of officer the person was, his disciplinary record, etc. POOF! You're now a person in charge of other officers and responsible for the direction of the dpt."

I have always agreed that our promotion system sucks, but it is here because in the "old days" people were appointed to positions, not on merit, but on who they knew. Now it is not "merit" system either, rather a pure test… and I agree it is still broke.

$ - "So start the flaming, I know it's inevitable; but I'll bet you're on of the boys- I'll bet you play(ed) on the softball team, go golfing with the CO's and go out drinking and whoring with the other boys."

I am not going to flame you, but am simply going to say that my 20 years here have had good and bad. Either your glass is half empty or it is half full, your choice. You make this job what you want it to be. I choose to remember the good people I worked with, forget the bad (to include some of the command) and want to remember the fun and laughs as opposed to the pain and tears. I would still do this job profession over again.

I again end by quoting a man who was much less formally educated, but much more intelligent than I ever was, "get over it, or quit"
