LMPD officer struck on I-65; police want to thank citizen who helped out |
RE: LMPD officer struck on I-65; police want to thank citizen...
One big problem is the department doesn't communicate very well. People don't even know the OT is available. Why is that? How hard is it to post it to a bulletin board or send out an e-mail? People can do real police work no matter what job they're in just like they can avoid it no matter what job they're in.
There are both lazy slugs and hard workers in every part of LMPD. These behaviors result from the hiring decisions and management of the department. Some of the supervisors and command don't do anything to people laying down (also known as not doing their jobs), but will hammer the hard workers every chance they get because the command is risk averse. Doing proactive police work requires some degree of risk. It exposes how qualified and well trained officers are, so when they screw up it comes back on the department. They reason its less risky if people are writing tickets or sitting around instead of chasing drug dealers every day. To have a department full of proactive and well trained officers requires having a motivated and competent set of leaders in the department who aren't afraid of getting sued.

I'm not sure how Larry's getting the shaft? Feel free to call him and ask if there's a problem!
We've done everything we can to help him during the wreck and with his recovery.
If I've mised something, feel free to call me or email me and let me know so I can make sure he's taken care of.
I'll put my name to this since I've been working with him.
