Well 50% of the dept didn't care enough to vote and of the voters abour 93% were in favor of the agreement. GREAT JOB DAVE M and hopefully Mayor Fischer will continue to work well with the FOP and all of Metro Government.

I will take this for what it appears to be on the surface.

It appears that Mayor Fischer is a man of his word.

It appears we have a good resolution to a sticky problem without having to resort to any further legal measures.

Great job everyone!

Reimbursement Checks Friday?

March 2nd, 2011 @ 11:54AM (13 years ago)

From WAVE3: "Fischer said the $890,000 collected from officers has been held in an escrow account so the Metro will not have to find a way to pay the settlement. He added the officers should have a check by Friday."

Wow! At least this Mayor is making it right in a timely manner!

Maybe we only have about 500 officers that actually hit the streets and work. All the rest are making sure that the 500 do what exactly what they are supposed to.....

It's simple - lower vote turnout because everyone knew it would pass. Bickering, Bickering, Bickering like children.

No wonder Metro Government needs OUR hard earned money for "gasoline". The kicker to the story is NO PROSECUTION even though "collusion" has been proven. Can someone get to the bottom of this? Why does it take 3 years for this to hit the paper? Why was this not mentioned during Jerry's "20 million in the hole" speech? This government makes me puke in my own mouth!!!!!!!! Where do all these corrupt department heads come up with these scandalous ideas? Where do they get the protection from? Must originate from their boss at the time -- Mayor McCheese. Why do we feel responsible as employees to give anything in return to a group of proven liars and thieves? Would you give money to a scumbag on the street? Why do you think it is "the right thing to do" and be responsible for helping repay money that is obviously embezzled? Our $50 a month has to go somewhere, it ain't going towards gas. Read and puke

An internal audit of the city's now defunct Department of Neighborhoods found that former director Melissa Mershon fabricated 37 invoices, worth more than $368,000, with 15 companies that supply services to the city of Louisville.

Mershon told police investigators that the invoices were used to pay companies in advance for special events, such as Light Up Louisville, and to avoid having allocated department money lapse at the end of the fiscal year and returned to the city's general fund.

The audit, which was discussed Wednesday at the Metro Council's Ethics and Accountability Committee meeting, looked at invoices during fiscal years 2008 and 2009.

Internal Auditor Mike Norman told the committee that none of the city's bookkeeping policies could have uncovered the problem because of "collusion" among several department employees to keep it hidden.

"The invoices were fabricated to look like actual vendor invoices, including the use of the vendor's logos, slogans, etc., which gave the appearance that the fabricated invoice had been issued directly from the vendor," the audit said. In addition, it said, Mershon wrote "OK to pay" on many of the invoices.

In addition to the fake invoices, the audit said the department deceived city officials about how it dealt with contracts, often allowing companies to be paid more than their contracts allowed through third-party contractors.

The Jefferson County Commonwealth Attorney's Office declined to pursue criminal charges against Mershon or Carol Butler, a special assistant to former Mayor Jerry Abramson who repaid the city $14,900 – money her company received for a never-published book on neighborhoods.

The biggest question council members had could not be answered Wednesday because no one from the Commonwealth Attorney's office was present at the meeting.

"How in the world can that be legal?" Republican Kelly Downard asked.

The Neighborhoods Department was shuttered for unrelated budgetary reasons. It was folded into the Parks Department last year.

Assistant Parks Director Marty Storch told the committee his department is going through about "30 boxes" of receipts and contracts to determine whether the city received all the services it paid for and that he expects to report back to the council in March.

OMG!!! You also need to print the story from LEO weekly dated March 2, 2011 "It's not easy being Green

Allegations of wrongdoing, unethical behavior and financial mismanagement mount against Councilwoman Judy Green"

By Phillip M. Bailey.

This town is out of control, and apparently there is no accountability.

Did you see Bob W standing behind the mayor and Dave at the news conference about the return of our money. That moronic look and stupid smug smile was sickening. I wonder if he'll have that same look when the mayor sends him packing?..............And does he now wear a star on his collar? What is that about, does he think he is a general or I guess he had to come up with something since his bowling partner had to get promoted and they needed the eagles?

You know the symbol should match the person so how about some Bozo the Clown pins!

Are the minutes from the council meetings used for evidence? Mershon refused to speak with investigators, but she gave info to the council? I'm confused. If I was involved, I would be in trouble, yet these guys skate the radar.

This guy is not Metro's best friend right now. Sounds like a whistle blower to me. Bet he gets paid off to go away.

Probationary police officer fired

The Courier-Journal

March 4, 2011

A probationary officer with Louisville Metro Police was fired Friday for poor job performance.

Queen Deborah Ca'Mel's termination was based on performance evaluations she'd received during her field training, which is when probationary officers work with senior officers on their beats, said Sgt. Bobby Biven, a police spokeswoman. She was sworn in as an officer on Jan. 29, 2010, after completing the police academy training program.

New officers are typically on probation for a one-year period, but Ca'Mel's probationary period had been extended by Chief Robert White for three months, Biven said.

While no specific information about her performance was available, Biven said the chief felt "it was in the best interest of the department" to terminate her employment.

Police disciplinary records show that Ca'Mel was given a written reprimand on Sept. 24 for failing to go to court.

Thank you Mayor. I hope the relationship between the police and the Mayor's office will continue to improve. With happy employees yield better service. Good job.

This is not an issue of how good or how bad this officer is. This is a case of being out of the city in another state and being pulled over for speeding period. If he has permission from his commander to be in Indiana then he's ok on the being out of state part, if not then he's got problems. Don't try to make excuses on this site for breaking regulations, you know what they are because you sign off on them everyday. Were trying to get the mayor to let officers take cars out of the city. Do you think this case helps with if it, if you do then your more stupid than I thought. We do stupid things and sometimes you get caught, if you do then pay the penalty and go on. The chief is on a roll here lately with discipline (thanks to the mayor) so if you get caught and he burns your a#s then it's your own fault. If I screw up and get caught I'll take my licks and lick my wounds and go on. I don't want anyone trying to justify my stupidity on this site. We talk to much about in house stuff on this site anyway, and we all know big brother looks at this site. I said it once and I'll say it again SOMETIMES WERE OUR OWN WORST ENEMY. I know this officer well and I don't care if he's a a#shole, alter boy or or just dumb and not thinking. But he's caught and will have to pay the price, our comments won't make any difference.
