Tony you are a great man and have always been a great friend of the family. I wish I could have had the opportunity to police with you like dad did.

Your friend

S. Hayden

Tony,

Finally I have read something on this site that I like. As I said in my previous comment you were one the most professional officers that I have ever worked with. LMPD is losing alot of knowledge......

The problem with all the NAY SAYERS is the fact that they are young and have no HONOR!

They have no clue what its like to put yourself in the line of fire for a complete stranger or heavin forbid take a bullet for a "Brother"...

Good luck in your "NEW" career..

See ya soon

Lt. Kobaugh,

Despite all that is being said in postings on this website, I for one was profoundly honored to have known you. You have served as a source of inspiration during my carreer and I was moved almost to tears by the posting of your farewell address. I was surprised that you only mentioned so few of your many outstanding achievements. I wish you would have been more detailed so as to inspire another generation of loyal followers. Maybe it was just a case of your C.R.S. condition that you failed to mention more or possibly your humble nature that would not allow you to do so for it would seem that you were tooting your own horn so to speak. But please, allow me to enlighten everone so that they too may bask in your glory.....

Do you remember December, 1955 while conducting an officer safety seminar in Montgomery Alabama at the county jail on the topic of "Typewriters...The Silent Killers" you refused to give up your seat at the front of the bus to a more affluent passenger. Who would have guessed that your personal courage would have lead to the birth of the civil rights movement.

Then there was that afternoon in February of 1945. On a then little known pacific island, you were instructing a detatchment of U.S. Marines in tactical rappelling from the summit of Mount Suribachi when a group of Japanese tactical operators thought that your overhand bowline knot was tied incorrectly. Needless to say, with all that testosterone and type A personalities present, a fracas ensued. Thank God you had spent all that time working with your kettle bell. You really showed those Japanese who was boss. I really though it was gracious of you to loan Joe Rosenthal your camera to take the now famous photo while you were removing your shoe laces to make a field expedient lanyard for the flag.

Lets not forget the time in July of 1969 while you were personally overseeing the research and developement phase of the Lenco Armored SWATT Lunar Module. Remember, it was you who ordered Neil Armstrong out the door first to conduct a slow search reconnaissance with the handheld mirror. You told him that you would stay inside the lander and set up a forward tactical command center. NASA knew they could count on you to make the right decisions 250,000 miles away in the Sea of Tranquility.

And perhaps your greatest story. How could you not mention the night of April 14th, 1865. You were posted on a stage light trestle at Ford's Theater after being personally requested by the president himself. I heard it was you that first spotted John Wilkes Booth sneaking into the presidential box. Even though you were armed only with a Beaumont-Adams revolver, your confidence in your own abilities allowed you know that you could make a precisely accurate shot across the theater. If only those two secret service agents hadn't gotten in your line of fire, you might have been able to save President Lincoln's life. They must have been unprofessional slobs from Louisville.

Agian, thank you for your "selfless" dedication, your "humble" attitude and your "quiet" determination. You are an inspiration to us all.
