In no way have I made you the bad guy. I am purely pointing out that there are some "issues" that only you can address in your continual rage and outright refusal to accept that most of the work we do as a profession is kind, accurate, ethical, impartial, at times dangerous, and service oriented. This refusal is repeatedly displayed by your continual blanket statements regarding the profession. I am not speaking to the choir on that, but to you alone.

For sure, nothing at all entitles any of us to anything purely by virtue of the badge. Each of us is our own person. After all, we are not just a badge and gun. We've all heard that comment repeatedly from the masses displeased with our ability to fix their problems in ten minutes to their complete satisfaction. Additionally, many of the issues we must address are a result of grander social issues that will have no easy cure and that policing alone can never change. (i.e. poverty, ignorance, racism, mental illness, addiction, domestic violence, etc.) We will keep trying to do what we can. And some of us will even be injured or unfortunately killed trying to do so. That is an irrefutable fact.

Additionally, I do not believe everything I see here. Some is goofy, some immature, some angry, some sarcastic, etc. I have not, at any time, defended anything or anyone on the site except for the overall decency of our profession. Referring to the previous paragraph, we all are our own person. To ascribe to the belief that we are all bad based on the mere comments of a few is overly simplistic and frankly wrong on your part.

My comments have been civil as well. In no way have you been threatened, belittled, ridiculed, or told to change your beliefs. In fact, I never mentioned that you couldn't have your opinions. My concern was that you seem overly grieved by not being able to swing us over to your side, and that if it was a continual problem that you could not shake alone, that there was help available to you. In essence, why are you letting us affect you so strongly. After all, this is a law enforcement focused site. A reasonable person can see that mine is quite a mature perspective. (Have an opinion, but don't become engrossed in others and let them affect you so deeply. If others want to take something from that and make some changes, then so be it.)

Oppositional defiant disorder is most generally applied to juveniles with an inability to see a need for authority for whatever reason. As such, that piece of your discussion is at best inaccurate.

Lastly, I am certain as you reread my previous posts that you will clearly see that I have excused nothing. Again, we are each our own person. I have not defended anything on any side. I just made the point that you seemed overly grieved. This has nothing to do with pycho-babble as you refer to it. And, I am confident that those following know exactly what I have been talking about including the terminology. The point is the point. It has everything to do with truth. And, as I previously mentioned, nothing about me or my self-perception is tied to anyone or anything but me. So, I certainly do not need to "look good" to anyone to be proud of who I am or of my chosen calling or choice of my profession. Good luck in life!
