Thats complete BULLS**T. More than half the guys and gals with 5-10 years on LMPD couldnt make it through the academy again or the POPS test for that matter. I know several guys on the dept that have had knee replacements and they can police circles around someone who can run five miles a day. Just because your in academy shape doesnt make you a great police officer. It helps SOMETIMES but not most of the time. We should all stay in good health and be physically fit for ourselves. For you guys who cant make ot through a 32 week academy anymore I apologize for the stupid ways of this dept, consider yourselves better off that you cant get on. Try places like St. Matthews, JTOWN, Shivley, Oldham Co, and so on.

When was the last time your physical training really came into play other than at training. I've been policing for 30 yrs (22 on this dept) and seem to get the job done just fine. It don't take a lot of physical training to punch a computer. Usually when there is an arrest to be made 4 or 5 cars are on the scene. Same mentality I see from most recruits fresh out of training, I'm invincible. I had a FTO who told me 1 time apply common sense out here and you'll find less trouble than trying to be headstrong with that I'm a cop, I'm invincible mentality that a lot have. And by the way I'm a lateral who didn't have to go back through the academy, I just went to WORK and I'm doing fine.
