This is Greg Fisher's response.

How would you change public safety in Louisville?

Greg Fischer: As mayor, I will continue to focus on auditable, data-driven public safety initiatives that take a community-oriented approach to fighting crime and responding to emergencies. I will work to strengthen partnerships and ensure accountability and responsibility by teaming with agencies outside of Metro Government, such as the courts, prosecutors, and drug and mental health service providers, both State and Federal, to solve the challenges before us. My strategy is to get tough both on crime itself and on the root causes of crime. So, for example, to combat youth and gang violence we must also provide young people healthy alternatives like quality after school services, jobs, and internships to steer them away from the attraction of gangs.

Strong families make strong communities, so I will also enhance our public safety mission to focus on family safety issues, ranging from domestic violence to elder abuse to integrating our growing population of internationals.
