Uhhh, it's a different band, for one thing ... You can't mix VHF/UHF with 800 readily - you have to bridge the two bands. The new system allows that much more easily. They could have come over to 800, but chose not to, for varying reasons - I don't blame them, but that is the problem. Remember, JCPD was on VHF and LPD was on UHF, each for good reasons - VHF works better in the wide open spaces, it has distance, while UHF works better in an environment with lots of buildings, it has punch. With FCC mandate, Metro Government had no choice but to move to the 800 system. That was pretty much out of their hands. I'd have to check the old lists, I've got them someone, that said who was where, but in order for LPD to talk to JCPD, they had to bridge, which tied up a frequency on both sides. LPD could talk to the sheriff's office, though, because they were both on UHF, if the proper freqs were programmed into the radios.
