Exactly, listen to your elders a little more that worked down there if they are still around from the early 90's. Cotter, Southwick and Parkhill all in one district. Crack cocaine hitting the city hard and everyone was off their rocker. Those guys got 3 years worth of experience in one summer on everything that could be thrown at a police officer. These young guys talk about being short on a platoon now try back then and this went on most of the the 90's until Cotter and Southwick went bye bye. Even after that it was off the hook 10 times worse than it is now. Equipment was not good, platoons short could'nt hardly get any v-time in the summer. These younger guys think it is made up but it is'nt, hell I was there starting in 96 and it was unbelievable. Without mentioning their name, but remember a night when the now Major in the 7th was the acting sergeant. Yeah back then there was usually only one and if you were lucky 2 sergeants assigned to a platoon. He was acting sergeant with 6 people on latewatch and one went home that is now a sergeant in homicide because he was really sick, he tried to stay but he made him go home. 6 people counting the acting CO, a Friday night in the summer running our A*&(*$ off. Boom 2 homicides back to back in less than an hour and one of them in Parkhill where a near riot was going on. None of us complained nor did the 6th district that helped us we just worked together and yes the dispatchers were right in the middle of it with us. The acting CO never flinched just rolled on with us on everything. Looking back it was actually a great night and fun in our police kind of way. The main thing I am saying is no one cussed about being short or worried about that kind of stuff like these guys do now. And they think they are short. Geez.
