I have to agree with that.

And who is creating this? It's not new guys.

Everything has gone to the coporate mentality. I had a Major and a Lt. try to "get me to understand" the philosophy of treating citizens like customers, it is a push of sorts to treat the Police Dept's like buinesses. I kindly reminded them the Police are not in "business". They know nothing of running a business. And when I asked them what is the number 1 priority of operating a business, the one thing that keeps a business alive, they could not give me the correct anwer. They tried but they never got it right. Because they know nothing of running one. They are Police trying to act like businessmen, or is it businessmen trying to act like the Police? You tell me.

Either way they are not very good at either it seems.

Some districts used to operate like that before merger. The officers in the active areas used to call them slugs, now they're just considered normal. I'm afraid the new people will not know how to do real policework if White leaves. Some will probably get themselves in trouble because they've had so little experience in the Lay-down Metro Police Department.

Come on out to the 7th division, our Major will tell you all day long to be a squirrel if that is what you call someone that comes in and works. He will come to roll call and tell ya to hustle do police work and he will handle any problems. So far he is true to the word as no one that I know of has had any issues if they are doing the right thing and hustling. It is a shame if a new guy is being messed with for doing police work by any officer new or old. If it is the older guys, they are pathetic, don't listen to them and remember it is because they are lazy and probably always have been. Don't get me wrong there are probably a few older ones that hustled when they were new like some of us, but for some reason just turned into duds. I say I am new because I have just over 5 years on now and still working and learning. Can't think of any of our older guys out here that would beat on our new guys, in fact they are more into getting on someone for not producing if it is a newer guy. The latewatch platoon for example has people like Wiley, Clarkson, Davenport etc... and they still work. Wiley by far out works most everyone in the division and the guy has 30 years in the system. Plus, we all have to have respect for anyone with 20 plus years still riding the beat on latewatch. Sorry that some of you guys get ragged on by some of the duds on our department. I would just ignore them and do my job.

The real meaning of being a Squirrel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A label of being a squirrel doesn't mean that you are a hard worker. It means that when you do things on the street, you are yelling on the radio for no reason, meaning well but doesn't know how to really solve the problem they are faced with so you make a decision that is not reasonable or deemed silly. Making arrests just for the sake of making an arrest, but not for the right reasons. (Does this really solve a problem or would a citation do) Some of the younger officers just want to look good in their uniforms, you can tell by how many times they check it for lent. I can sometimes smell the GALLS on you guys. Don't try to be something you are not, and that is experienced. That will come in time. Don't bash the older folks, learn from them. Let the e-go. Yes, we know you are cool because you are the police. Ask yourself, are you really the police or just dressing up like one. You might be a squirrel, there is still time to grow out of it and become a experienced officer who takes the time to know there area and be respected, a person who knows how to solve a problem. A squirrel wouldn't know how to do that. Know the meaning of squirrel before you use it. You might be called a Blue Book. Find that one out on your own, and know that the real meaning of it is not just a crazy person.
