White denied Atlanta police chief position

July 9th, 2010 @ 8:52AM (14 years ago)

I'm sorry for the rank & file as they are stuck with White...for now. I think Greg Fischer, if elected, will probably keep him (no basis for this but just my own beliefs). Heiner will probably pick someone else from within the dept or someone already retired from LMPD. Even if White had gotten this job Jerry would have replaced him from within the command staff. After 7 years many of them have lost their way & are as much of an idiot as White is. It seems the ones who are not get drum rolled out or have already retired. I'm just saying.

We need to get definitive answers from the candidates before we endorse ANYBODY. We cannot afford 4 more years of White.

If Fischer goes in White "WILL" stay. This department is doomed for four more years of his "I'll take care of my own kind" philosophy. This goes to show you when it gets right down to it, no one wants this clown to run their dept. All I can say is I feel sorry for the new people to have to endure this administration of people who don't care about anyone but themselves. As for me I think I'll retire soon and get out of this "MESS".

Very interesting how these two major police agencies realized that it was in their best interest to promote from within and hire someone that already has a vast working knowledge of the department they are going to head. It really makes sense to hire an able body person with 28 years of experience to continue working for their agency and not bring in a NEWBIE to screw with things that have worked for decades. Too bad Fat Head Jerry had to screw over the citizens of Louisville and bring in someone to mess everything up 7 years ago.

Poor Crump! Always a bridesmaid lately. I also have to note that I am glad to see that the 90's idea that we need to look outside our area to find someone to manage our area seems to be falling apart like most liberal philosophies.

I am glad Chief White is staying around. That means crime will be out of control, which means people don't want to move here, which, means my house value drops, which means less taxes they collect duh. You have to look at the big picture here. It is all about the community, which he doesn't care about because as soon as he retires, finds another job or whatever he is leaving this community that he has ruined. And it will take more then seven years to rebuild. That my take like it or not.

Greg Fischer said on today's news that he would keep Chief White in that same position if elected. Well FOP i think i know who we need to back then. Like Obama says change is good.

"I think it's important that the community understands that I was not pursuing this job nor the Dallas job," White said in a morning news conference, "I was pursued as it relates to that. And the only reason I expressed an interest in it was because the mayor decided he wasn't running for reelection."

White is one of about 115 Metro Employees who serve "at the pleasure of the mayor." So, with Jerry Abramson out of office this December, White says he had to consider other cities.

"It wasn't out of a desire that I wanted to do something different," White explained, "It was out of a desire that I wanted to continue to take care of my family and continue to pursue my career in law enforcement."

Earlier this year, White also interviewed for but failed to get the Dallas chief job, and several years ago thought he had the top job with Chicago police.

"I will forego any other future opportunities, and there have been several," White continued, "I have been confronted with some as early as this morning after they found out I didn't get Atlanta. I told them I'm not expressing an interest in doing anything else. I'm going to wait until the general election is over with and see what happens then."

"He's done a good job of making our city one of the safest places in America," said Democratic mayoral candidate Greg Fischer, "He's got a good consistency. We've got a good chief in Chief White so we should stay with him."

Republican candidate Hal Heiner says politics should be kept out of the decision, so he would wait until after the election to meet with White and to consider keeping White.

What the staff meetings would look like if Chief White left. The guy on the left is one of the lawyers.

I don't fault Col. White for looking at other jobs. As an individual I actially like the guy, although I agree he doesn't know most of us by name, but then again I couldn't tell you who most of the officer are anymore.

What I do fault him for is that he, and to be honset ALL of us who have been here since before the merger, had an opportunity to build one of the flagship departments of this nation. We took to good agencies, and made one that is decent, but not great. Please, take a look at the fact that I share in this blame, as I kept looking to others to make it better. That is my fault. I should have been more vocal earlier. Now I am, but it took me years of hope that turned into disgust for that to happen.

We have officers that will gladly throw their own under the bus to better themselves. Officers (and Command) who are more interested in their off-duy employments than in their REAL job. We have officers who have never hit a lick, NEVER INDICTED a single criminal (how is this possible?), never had the gumption to try and build a solid case, who are too lazy to take a good report (etc, etc, etc)

We have command who were promoted becuase they took a test, not because they could successfully do the job of a police officer. Don't get me wrong there are many good supervisors, but we all know those who HAVE never been good police who moved up the ladder because they learned the game.

We have majors who are alleged to have "fixed" the numbers, making crime appear lower. We have Lieutenants who want to be majors so badly they would sell their first born childern to get there.

We have officers who are always last on their own runs, we have detectives who couldn't "detect" a wet dream.

Don't misunderstand me, these are in the minority of the departments membership, but they are here. In fact we can all name them, I just choose to not embarass them in this forum.

Hey Chief, Detroit just had their chief resign. When are you going to apply to go up there?
