Former Metro Corrections employees sue again

A lot of the complaints that you all have are due to staffing shortages. Bolton won't use OT, except to get us to minimum staffing levels, and he hasn't even bothered sending an academy thru this year. In the next two years (by 2012), expect it to get even worse. As a department, we got hazardous duty coverage back in 91 or 92. Many, many people are simply waiting for 20 full years of hazardous before they go out. I fully expect to see 50-60 retirements in the next two years, and we're only a 450 man department.

Decisions like the grill doors, staffing one BA on the weekend, etc...those aren't line staff decisions. They're made by command, and it's not our fault. Complain to the RIGHT people, and maybe you'll get something done. Kinda like the ID lab going **** up. We didn't want it, don't agree with it, and are pissed about it. Of course, we didn't get asked, we were TOLD it was going. Still haven't heard of any of your guys making official complaints about it. We did, but it doesn't do any good.

Like someone else said, we're a team, albeit on different sides of the doors. We'd love to have you guys help us out - just direct your complaints to the right people.

Oh, and as far as the 10-30 calls coming out - I'm afraid I was one of those recently. Not my fault, as when I work off duty, I'm there to make extra money. I don't want to do much of anything, but sometimes....you just can't help it. I'd prefer to play on the laptop, read a book, BS with someone on the phone..whatever. But, they employ officers there for a reason, and it's not because crime is low and they want a person there to look pretty. Yeah, some of us need a lesson in how to deal with people - but, then again - so do a lot of you. I love the arrogant little pricks that your agency seems to produce at times. You know, the 22 year old kid with a college degree that thinks he's God's gift to the world because he's da po-po? They occasionally need to be reminded of their place in the world. I was fighting inmates back before they had body hair and knew what to do with their body parts. Just because you're the police, doesn't mean you're super-stud and everyone should bow down to you.

That being said, there's a lot of nice guys out there. Oddly enough, they seem to be the folks with a lot of time on. Wonder why? Billy is one of them (yes, I know you, Billy). Paul Schweizter is another. Perhaps some of the yougner folks could learn to emulate your attitudes, instead of thinking their poop don't stink just because they wear a different patch.
