How about one of you guys call up Heiner and Fisher and offer to take them on a ridealong on a Friday or Saturday night this summer? And NOT in the East End.

Why should we take prisoners from you who are injured, when you're responsible for their care prior to our taking them into the jail?

And we ARE seperate entities. As has been made abundantly clear numerous times on both this forum and in other venues, we don't get the same training as you guys. We don't get paid the same, we don't get the same benefits, we don't get near the same respect, either.

If you'd like to merge the departments, and run things like Las Vegas Metro PD/Jail, I believe I can speak for every officer that is employed by LMDC - let's do it! I could use a pay raise of about $6/hour. That's what the difference between my pay and an equivilant time-in-service officer for LMPD makes per hour. You wouldn't have to be complaining about LMDC officers working off duty much, either. Most of us work off duty to make some extra income to pay bills. With another $12K in pocket per year, I could do my 40 hours/week and enjoy not getting 4 hours of sleep on days I work off duty.

I wouldn't mind the KLEC certification, either. Might be useful when I retire, should I choose to actually stay in this crazy field. I personally have plans that involve nothing with LE, but you never know.

So, let's merge the agencies - most of you guys who've come thru the jail first are better officers for it, although you've hired a couple of our turds in recent memory. But, it's not like all of your guys are paragons of virtue - I can still remember Bobby Newton and his little issue...not to mention Michael Canteen firing off warning shots at a guy. Man, did that ever get covered up, and good.

So, if you want full access to LMDC, let's merge. Be advised, though - I obviously work for the jail, and am not allowed to access stuff like main control or property, unless I have reason AND permission from a shift commander, to be there.

I am curious about your angle on this - I'm guessing you're a detective of some sort, based on your complaints of jail phone calls. FYI - that's handled thru PSU. Guess how well liked those folks are by the rest of us? About the same as they are for you guys, I'd imagine. Only, we don't rotate PSU assignments. The particular lieutenant in charge over there has been for for well over a decade. I wonder if/how that skews his viewpoint of his fellow officers?

I'm also curious as to how you view Metrosafe, VID, the health department, IPL, MAS, and any other goverment agency. Just because we all have the same ultimate boss, doesn't mean we don't have different functions and policies. Should you be able to go to MAS, borrow a truck, and do what you want with it? While I agree Metrosafe and VID should fall under the PD, they changed it, and it's worse for the change. Until they fix it, you guys and us are stuck with the problems they created.

Hey, let's just merge a bunch of agencies, eliminate a number of department heads (thus saving money for the taxpayers), and go from there. With LMPD as the parent agency, both LMDC and JCYC could be merged as the "jail division" of LMPD. Metrosafe and VID could be rolled back over to LMPD, giving the officers who depend on the radio for the lifelines better control over it, and VID just makes sense. Since police are the only ones who should be towing vehicles (not PARC's dumb arses), then VID should be under LMPD.

Seems simple enough. We could get rid of all the department heads, replace them with Majors and lower for day-to-day operations. It would LMPD more of a say in how things are run at the various agencies, and give LMDC officers the chance to go to the street one day.

Hmm..win-win, anyone? Someone might want to bring this up to Heiner one day - it sure as hell saves money.

Don't you guys get it? They don't want you to lock people up. More arrest means more money and more possible lawsuits the city will buckle on. But I'm with you on the medical issue. Corrections should take them and send them out to the hospital. It comes down to being on 2 different budgets.

Im sorry that our back up calls sometimes comes out as 10-30's but thanks for showing up. I really appreciate you guys helping us out there.
